Infra-red
While the infrared bar that must be placed on top of the TV is invisivle to the human eye, a camera equipped with a night mode can detect them quite well.

Yeah, most digital cameras pick up infra-red LEDs and the like quite well, despite the built-in infra-red filter. Makes for a very handy "is this remote control working" tool.

Out of curosity, what games have you got for it?

It's my sister's; so she only has Wii sports. I purchased the console and transported it to San Diego; my parents are supposed to buy 1-3 extra controllers and more games. I don't know what she should get: any recommendations? (She's 10. Twilight Zelda might be too complicated for her.)

Hmm... have a look at Wario Ware, any of the Rabbids games, Mario Kart Wii, possibly even Super Smash Bros Brawl. Also it's worth getting Wii Play, especially if it's bundled with a controller like over here (Wii Play with a controller is about the same price as most Wii games).

Yep, it's always a fun trivia fact to surprise non-techies with.
